The Seton Catholic Cardinals will face off against the Union City Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Seton Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Seton Catholic is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They came out on top against Randolph Southern by a score of 8-3. The game was the first time the Cardinals have beaten the Rebels on their field since May 26, 2021.
Tyson Tremain spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. Seton Catholic is 6-3 when Tremain allows two or fewer earned runs, but 1-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Seton Catholic's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Taeon Tate, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Tate has become a key player for the Cardinals: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-11 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Union City hadn't done well against Monroe Central recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Indians were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Golden Bears. Considering the Indians have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Caleb Lutz was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayson Connor, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brayden Huggins, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Union City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monroe Central only managed three hits.
Seton Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Union City, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Seton Catholic has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Union City struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Seton Catholic might still be hurting after the 23-3 loss they got from Union City when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
