Baseball Game Preview: Chaminade Flyers vs. St. Anthony's Friars

The Chaminade Flyers will challenge the St. Anthony's Friars at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are out to turn their luck around after having lost tight contests in their previous games.

Chaminade fell victim to Poly Prep Country Day and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 2-0. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Flyers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, St. Anthony's fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Archbishop Molloy on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Stanners by a score of 4-2. That's two games in a row now that the Friars have lost by exactly two runs.

St. Anthony's got a good showing from Mario Lazzinnaro, who tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Lazzinnaro has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, St. Anthony's saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Carlo, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Phil Mazzola was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

This is the second loss in a row for St. Anthony's and nudges their season record down to 8-4. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only two runs. As for Chaminade, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Chaminade couldn't quite finish off St. Anthony's in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Flyers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
