Baseball Game Preview: Arroyo Knights vs. Marshall Eagles

The Arroyo Knights will face off against the Marshall Eagles at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Arroyo will be strutting in after a victory while Marshall will be coming in after a defeat.

Arroyo's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Rosemead with a sharp 7-0 win.

The team relied heavily on Gio Perez, who scored two runs while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Manny Vargas, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Perez wasn't the only one making solid contact: Arroyo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The Knights are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Marshall fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against South El Monte on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of South El Monte by a score of 6-5. Marshall's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Elijah Lain made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevor Lain, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

Marshall's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-3-1. As for Arroyo, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5-1.

Arroyo skirted past Marshall 3-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
