Basketball Recap: Maria Lyde's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Greeneville over Cocke County

Greeneville easily dispatched Volunteer last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Greeneville Greene Devils fell just short of the Cocke County Fighting Cocks by a score of 55-52 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Greene Devils have suffered since December 19, 2024.

Several Greene Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maria Lyde, who went 5-for-11 en route to 13 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Lyde is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kyla Jobe, who went 8-for-18 on her way to 20 points.

Cocke County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Blakelyn Clevenger out in front who went 6-for-10 to rack up 16 points. Ava Wheeler was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Greeneville's loss dropped their record down to 17-10. As for Cocke County, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 24-6 record this season.

Greeneville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-59 win against West Ridge on the 17th. Cocke County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
