Basketball Recap: Holmes Comes Up Short

Holmes extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 12-11. The game between the Huskies and the Sotomayor WILDCATS didn't end well, with the Huskies falling 75-59. The Huskies were not able to make up for their loss to the WILDCATS from their previous meeting back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Holmes lost, don't look at Junior Sanchez. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Conrad, who shot 41% from the field to rack up 19 points.

As for Sotomayor, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 85.5 points over those games.

Olubunmi Odewole had another great game (as he tends to do), going 11-for-17 on his way to 25 points along with six boards and four steals. Those 25 points gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Justin McBryde, who shot 64% from the field en route to 16 points.

Looking ahead, Holmes will head out to square off against Harlan at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Sotomayor, they will square off against Stevens at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The WILDCATS will be up against the Falcons' rather soft defense (which has allowed 51.67 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
