Softball Recap: Williams Has No Trouble Against Mogollon

Williams won the last time they faced Mogollon and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 19-5 margin over the Mustangs. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

Danika Howe made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI.

In other batting news, Williams got a massive performance out of Aliyah Torres, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave Torres a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Miranda Chaney, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.

Williams kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory made it two in a row for Williams and bumps their season record up to 8-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Mogollon, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-10.

Coming up, Williams will square off against Ash Fork/Seligman at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season. As for Mogollon, they will face off against Hayden at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The Mustangs are facing the Lobos at the right time seeing as the Lobos are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
