Softball Recap: Arcata Finds Home Field Redemption Against Ferndale

There's no place like home for Arcata, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They had just enough and edged out the Ferndale Wildcats 8-7 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since April 2, 2024.

Sophia Spetzer looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Peyton Miller was a standout: she scored a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Lily Cunningham, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Arcata hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ferndale struck out eight times.

Arcata's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Ferndale, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-4.

Looking ahead, Arcata will take on Biggs in a tournament on Saturday. Arcata's pitchers better be ready for this one: Biggs has averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Ferndale, they will be playing at home against St. Bernard's at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
