The Eastbrook Panthers will face off against the Northfield Norsemen at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Eastbrook is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
Eastbrook took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Southern Wells 15-1. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Olivia Legg made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Gracie Elliott was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 4-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Braelee McNutt, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
Eastbrook always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Northfield's offense. They came up short against Mississinewa on Thursday, falling 19-0. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Norsemen's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Eastbrook now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Northfield, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Northfield's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Eastbrook has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Northfield, though, as they've been averaging 15.3 hits. Given Eastbrook's sizable advantage in that area, the Norsemen will need to find a way to close that gap.
Eastbrook took their victory against Northfield when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-0 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Norsemen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
