Basketball Recap: Zane Whitson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Oxford over South Haven

It was a proper cat-fight when Oxford duked it out with South Haven on Tuesday. The Oxford Wildcats fell just short of the South Haven Cardinals by a score of 45-43. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 68-59 two weeks ago.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zane Whitson, who went 6-for-15 on his way to 15 points and eight assists. Those 15 points gave Whitson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cordell Jordan, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Oxford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Oxford's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 11-3. As for South Haven, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Oxford has already played their next contest, a 58-55 victory against Sedan on the 7th. South Haven has also already played their next game (against Cedar Vale/Dexter), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
