Baseball Recap: St. John's Northwestern Military Academy Find Success

St. John's Northwestern Military Academy took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Pius XI Catholic, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Lancers had just enough and edged out the Popes 10-8. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Lancers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

David Schroettner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Matthias Ericksen was excellent, going 4-for-5 with two runs. St. John's Northwestern Military Academy is 4-1 when Ericksen posts two or more runs, but 0-8 otherwise. Jack Dietrich also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

St. John's Northwestern Military Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

St. John's Northwestern Military Academy moved to 4-9 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Pius XI Catholic, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14.

Coming up, St. John's Northwestern Military Academy will challenge Kenosha Christian Life at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pius XI Catholic, they will square off against Germantown at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warhawks will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Popes surely won't give up without a fight.
