Softball Preview: United Christian Academy vs. Calvary Academy Warrior

After both having extra time off, United Christian Academy and the Calvary Academy Warrior will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

While United Christian Academy fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Thursday's season opener. They blew past Girard College 16-3 back in April.

Molly Ford and Peyton Magie were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Ford tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Magie struck out eight batters over two innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits (and not a single walk). At the plate, Ford got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI, while Magie went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI.

In other batting news, United Christian Academy let Hannah Edwards and Taylor Martin run wild. Edwards went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Martin went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Seidl, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calvary Academy). Everything went their way against Cumberland Christian last Tuesday as they made off with a 25-13 victory. The Warrior haven't had any issues with the Crusaders recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Like United Christian Academy, Calvary Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Gianna Mistretta. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Mistretta was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles.

In other batting news, Tori DiChiara was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs. Sarah Pazik also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Calvary Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .923. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
