Football Recap: Seneca Skates Past Pickens with Ease

Seneca had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 48-14 win over the Pickens Blue Flame. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Bobcats' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 36th, while the Blue Flame are ranked 169th).

Gavin Thoma had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 168 yards and four touchdowns while completing 93.3% of his passes, and also rushing for 65 yards and one score. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in October of 2024. Amari Verner was another key player, rushing for 107 yards and one TD on only 11 carries.

Seneca's run defense was locked in: Pickens could only muster 1.7 yards per carry. While two picked up at least seven total tackles, Mekhi Mendez stood above the rest. He picked up a sack and made seven total tackles (3.0 for loss). Seneca didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.3.

Seneca's defense didn't let Nolan Hardin, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. Pickens' QB won't forget Jermaine Miller anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Seneca got some further help from Mendez: he picked up a sack and made seven total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Seneca's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Pickens, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Seneca does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Pickens, they will welcome Travelers Rest at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
