Baseball Recap: Sterling Snags Third Win in Last Four Games

Sterling won the last time they faced Mendota and things went their way on Saturday too. The Golden Warriors walked away with a 7-2 win over the Trojans.

Bryce Hartman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Sterling is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 8-16 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Drew Nettleton was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Lincoln Davis, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Sterling was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Sterling has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-17 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Mendota, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-14-1.

Coming up, Sterling will welcome Geneseo at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Mendota, they will head out to square off against Erie-Prophetstown at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
