Softball Recap: Elkhart Lions vs. Logansport Berries
Elkhart had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 8-8 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. They skirted past the Logansport Berries 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lions have posted since April 17th.
Anna Knight spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits.
At the plate, Ava Walker was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Bailey Harris-Rogers, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
As for Logansport, they dropped their record down to 11-4 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by just one run.
On Logansport's side, Natalee Packard put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Packard has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Packard wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brooklynn Hagerty, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Hagerty has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played.
Elkhart has already played their next game, an 8-3 defeat against Valparaiso on the 3rd. As for Logansport, they will head out on the road to take on Peru at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
