Baseball Game Preview: Dallas County Hornets vs. Billingsley Bears

Dallas County has gone 8-2 against Billingsley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Hornets will head out on the road to square off against the Bears at 5:00 p.m. Dallas County will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Having struggled with nine defeats in a row, Dallas County turned things around against Selma on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Saints with a sharp 15-5 victory. The Hornets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Devin Woods was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Dallas County's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-8 when he doesn't). Woods was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Patrick Rudolph was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Julian Dixon also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Billingsley had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 6-1.

The team relied heavily on Hudson Manning, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Hunter Wyatt was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Billingsley pushed their record up to 15-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Dallas County, their record is now 2-9.

Dallas County skirted past Billingsley 4-3 in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
