Softball Recap: Rhea County Victorious

After losing to McMinn County the last time they met, Rhea County decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Golden Eagles narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Cherokees 5-4.

Allie Shaver spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Presley Bradshaw, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Landree Brown, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Rhea County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for McMinn County, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-17.

Rhea County wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 10-0 defeat against Cleveland on the 6th. McMinn County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
