Softball Recap: Guilford Comes Up Short

Boylan Catholic hit Guilford with a four-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Titans. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Titans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Malia Welch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and five unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Cali Welding made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Amiyah Wyrick, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Guilford has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Boylan Catholic, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-8.

Coincidentally, Guilford and Boylan Catholic will both be playing Rockford Auburn the next time they take the field. The Titans will head out to face the Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Vikings will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
