Softball Recap: Juan Diego Catholic Victorious

Juan Diego Catholic was handed a 15-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Richfield Wildcats. The Soaring Eagle haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Sienna Wood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Juan Diego Catholic got a massive performance out of Mattie Montoya, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that Montoya hit this season. Oaklee Thomas was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Juan Diego Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive games.

Juan Diego Catholic's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Richfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.
