Softball Recap: Deer Valley Wolverines vs. Freedom Falcons
Deer Valley extended their losing streak to 12 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-15 in the process. They lost 23-1 to the Freedom Falcons. If the Wolverines were looking for revenge after losing 22-0 to the Falcons when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Deer Valley saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braelyn Valdez, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
As for Freedom, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.
On Freedom's side, they got a great performance from Jaclyn Graves as she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Graves has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaiden Proctor, who fired off three home runs, eight RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. Terralynn Delauter was another key player, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
While Deer Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
