Ponder signal caller is coming off a 584-yard, six-touchdown performance last week.

With high school football heating up in the state of Texas, nearly every team has played four games. Fifty-four quarterbacks have thrown for at least 1,000 yards and the top signal caller on our state passing yardage leaderboard has topped 2,000 yards.

Clifton Cooper of Ponder leads the way with 2,090 yards. The 6-foot-1 senior is also atop the national leaderboard after throwing for 500-plus yards in three of his four games. Cooper has 25 touchdown passes and three rushing scores for the 3-1 Lions. He has an offer from Centenary College of Louisiana.

Blake Flowers of Seminole is second with 1,495 passing yards. In the past two games, the 6-3 senior has averaged 415 yards with 11 TD passes for a 3-1 team.

Armando Lujan of Sunray is a sophomore to keep an eye on. His 1,235 passing yards this season are good for No. 11 in the state. In a 50-6 win over Dimmitt on Sept. 9, the 5-10 signal caller completed 73 percent of his passes for 402 yards and five touchdowns.
