Football Game Preview: Weatherford Kangaroos vs. Lake Ridge Eagles

The Weatherford Kangaroos will venture away from home to square off against the Lake Ridge Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Weatherford is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Weatherford is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 49 points on October 3rd, they were much more limited against North Crowley on Friday. They took a blow against the Panthers, falling 70-7. While losing is never fun, the Kangaroos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 429th, while the Panthers are ranked 11th).

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Friday. Lake Ridge took down Crowley 42-28.

Weatherford better keep an eye on DeShawn Edwards. He was instrumental in Lake Ridge's win, rushing for 167 yards and two TDs on only nine carries, while also throwing for 184 yards and three touchdowns. Those 167 rushing yards gave Edwards a new career-high. 116 of Edwards' passing yards were hauled in by Mikah B, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Lake Ridge was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 251 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 160 rushing yards in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Lake Ridge's record is now 5-2. As for Weatherford, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Weatherford didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Lake Ridge when the teams last played back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 34-28 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Kangaroos since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
