Softball Recap: Avon Lake Has No Trouble Against Elyria

Avon Lake barely beat Elyria the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Shoremen put the hurt on the Pioneers with a sharp 15-5 victory on Thursday. With that win, the Shoremen brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.

Emerson Burgess made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Burgess was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carmen McMinn, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. Sammy Cracas was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Avon Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Avon Lake's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Elyria, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 2-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Avon Lake will challenge St. Joseph Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Shoremen's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jaguars have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. As for Elyria, they will face off against North Ridgeville at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Rangers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Pioneers surely won't give up without a fight.
