Basketball Recap: Natoma Falls Despite Big Games from Andreya Lyle and Lucy Alexander

It was a proper cat-fight when Natoma faced off against Western Plains on Monday. The Natoma Tigers lost 58-33 to the Western Plains Bobcats. The Tigers have struggled against the Bobcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Natoma's loss came despite strong showings from Lucy Alexander and Andreya Lyle. Alexander dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten boards, while Lyle went 5-for-10 en route to 10 points. The dominant performance gave Lyle a new career-high in points.

Western Plains got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaelyn Spangler out in front who went 7-for-11 on her way to 16 points and four steals. Spangler has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Madelyn Kraus, who went 7-for-15 to rack up 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Natoma's loss dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Western Plains, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Natoma will head out to face off against Lakeside at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Western Plains, they are taking a road trip to square off against Chase at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Western Plains is facing Chase at the right time seeing as Chase is stuck on a 19-game losing streak.
