St. Joseph hasn't had much luck against Leechburg recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. St. Joseph has given up an average of 15.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
St. Joseph is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They lost 13-3 to Union Area.
St. Joseph saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Hill, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Those stolen bases marked the first that Hill snagged this season. Another was Martin Stickney, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Leechburg waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Golden Beavers by a score of 9-5.
Chase Henry made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other batting news, Rocco Vigna was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Garrett Jones was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Leechburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Western Beaver only managed two hits.
Leechburg's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for St. Joseph, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. St. Joseph has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Leechburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
St. Joseph might still be hurting after the 17-2 defeat they got from Leechburg in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
