Wallace gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They walked away with a 44-36 win over the Arthur County Wolves. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 31-6 victory the Wolves walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2024.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Ashtin Johns and Brayden Gardner. Johns rushed for 189 yards and three scores while picking up 8.6 yards per carry while Gardner gained 137 total yards and three touchdowns. Johns really tore up the turf during one magnificent 74-yard run. Tyson Sullivan helped out on the ground, rushing for 102 yards.
Wallace was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 379 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arthur County only rushed for 120 rushing yards.
Several Wolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Grady Gorwill, who rushed for 78 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also picked up 38 receiving yards and one TD. Reese Swanson was another key passer, throwing for 149 yards and three touchdowns.
Looking ahead, Wallace will head out to square off against Creek Valley at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Arthur County, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Medicine Valley at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
