Basketball Recap: Bryan Comes Up Short

Bryan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against the Omaha South Packers, falling 70-48. The game was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly the Bears struggled afterwards.

When it comes to explaining why Bryan lost, don't look at Deon Darnell. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The match was Darnell's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Chris Martinez also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Even though they lost, Bryan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Omaha South's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lou Hodoly, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 14 points and three steals. Hodoly is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jay Jones, who went 6 for 8 en route to 14 points.

Bryan's loss dropped their record down to 0-15. As for Omaha South, their victory ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-12.

Bryan has already played their next contest (against Omaha Northwest), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Omaha South will host Papillion-LaVista at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Omaha South is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.9 points per game this season.
