Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Breese Central

Breese Central proved they can win big last Friday (they won by ten) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Wesclin Warriors 10-9. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Dalanee Materkowski tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kate Johnson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Ella Haar, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Breese Central's win bumped their record up to 15-13. As for Wesclin, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-21 record this season.

Breese Central will be playing at home against Highland at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.83 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Wesclin, they will head out on the road to challenge Nashville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
