Former Brentwood Academy long jump and football standout projected to be the first defensive back taken in the NFL Draft, possibly to the Cleveland Browns at No. 2.

For a while, it looked like Jalen Ramsey might make NFL Draft history and enjoy a homecoming all on the same day.

Projected as the potential No. 1 pick of the Tennessee Titans in at least one mock draft, Ramsey's selection with the top pick would have made him the first defensive back chosen with the No. 1 overall pick since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970. Additionally, the choice by the Titans would have been a return home for Ramsey, who prepped at nearby Brentwood Academy (Tenn.).

But that speculation changed when the Titans traded the No. 1 overall selection in the draft to the Los Angeles Rams. Ramsey's hometown Titans now select at No. 15, when he will undoubtedly be long gone, and the Rams are looking for a quarterback, not a defensive back.

Still, Ramsey figures to be among the top four selections, with the latest CBS Sports mock draft boards tabbing him as the No. 2 pick to the Cleveland Browns in two of five scenarios. The Chargers at No. 3 (one choice) and Cowboys at No. 4 (two choices) are the other mock spots he is slotted in at.

Ramsey was also a star in track and field in high school, etching his name in the Tennessee record books his senior season with a long jump of 25 feet, 3.25 inches at the 2013 TSSAA Division II state finals. That mark beat the state record by an astonishing 7.75 inches. He also won the title in the 400-meters with a time of 49.27 seconds and finished third in the 100 (10.70) and 200 (21.85).

Ramsey left his home state following his senior year at Brentwood Academy, where he was an all-state wide receiver, to attend Florida State. He moved to defensive back with the Seminoles and earned all-America honors as a sophomore and junior.

His versatility is his strength, as he played both cornerback and safety in college and is seen as a potential nickel back at the professional level.
