Baseball Game Preview: Delphi Community Oracles vs. Lafayette Central Catholic Knights

Delphi Community hasn't had much luck against Lafayette Central Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Oracles will take on the Knights at 6:00 p.m. Delphi Community is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

Delphi Community is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over Seeger. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Oracles.

Keygan Elliott spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brett Huffman, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayte Bernhardt, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Lafayette Central Catholic entered their tilt with Benton Central on Saturday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They blew past the Bison 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Lafayette Central Catholic's win bumped their record up to 24-5. As for Delphi Community, their victory bumped their record up to 18-11.

Delphi Community was able to grind out a solid win over Lafayette Central Catholic in their previous matchup back in May of 2019, winning 6-1. Do the Oracles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
