Baseball Recap: Great Bend Sets Scoring Season-High Against Manhattan

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Great Bend). They blew past the Manhattan Indians 16-7 on Wednesday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by six runs or more this season.

Carson Umphres was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Wondra, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.

Great Bend's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Manhattan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-5.

Looking ahead, Great Bend will head out on the road to square off against Garden City at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Buffaloes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.25 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. Manhattan has already played their next match (against Emporia), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
