Baseball Preview: Dixie Flyers vs. Cottonwood Colts
The Dixie Flyers will square off against the Cottonwood Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dixie is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
Dixie is hoping to deliver their fans another blowout on Thursday, just like they did against Snow Canyon (and have done all season long). Dixie put the hurt on Snow Canyon with a sharp 13-7 victory two weeks ago. Dixie's win was all the more impressive since Snow Canyon was averaging only 3.35 runs allowed on the season.
Trace Franco was incredible, going 3-for-4 with a home run, four runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ridge Erickson, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Cottonwood extended their postseason success on Saturday against Hurricane. They had just enough and edged the Tigers out 9-8. Winning may never get old, but Cottonwood sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Ladanian Gutierrez was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with a home run and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Oliver Wayman, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Dixie's victory bumped their record up to 22-3. As for Cottonwood, their win bumped their record up to 14-10.
Thursday's game will be a test for both team's pitchers. Dixie hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Cottonwood struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
