The Concord Spiders will take on the Lake Norman Charter Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Having struggled with 13 defeats in a row dating back to last season, Concord turned things around against South Rowan on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 win over the Raiders. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Spiders' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

McKinley Williams was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two stolen bases. Williams is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Anamaria Shuman, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Concord was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Lake Norman Charter not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15, 2024. They were the clear victor by a 12-1 margin over Hopewell. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.
Morgan Gadd made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in February of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abby Courtney, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ilyana Smith, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Lake Norman Charter now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Concord, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Concord might still be hurting after the 14-3 loss they got from Lake Norman Charter in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Concord avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
