Baseball Game Preview: Carson Colts vs. San Pedro Pirates

The Carson Colts will challenge the San Pedro Pirates at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Carson has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while San Pedro will arrive with three straight victories.

Carson fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Narbonne on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Gauchos by a score of 7-6. Colts fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Gauchos since on Wednesday.

Anthony Dorado was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits.

On the hitting side, Xavier Allen made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with one double and one RBI. That double was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Nate Ruan, who scored a run while going 1-for-5.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Wednesday San Pedro sidestepped Banning for a 3-2 win.

Anthony Solis made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has become a key player for San Pedro: the team is 3-0-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-4 otherwise. Solis was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Solis wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brody Harper, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Carson's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for San Pedro, they now have a winning record of 5-4-1.

Carson skirted past San Pedro 6-4 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will Carson repeat their success, or does San Pedro have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
