Softball Game Preview: Sault Area Blue Devils vs. Frankfort Panthers

The Sault Area Blue Devils will head out to face off against the Frankfort Panthers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Sault Area came up short against Petoskey on Tuesday, falling 20-5. The Blue Devils have struggled against the Northmen recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Frankfort). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Mason County Eastern a 16-0 shutout on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Sage Myers was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Kyleigh Robideau and Darby O'Grady did most of the damage at the plate: Robideau got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI, while O'Grady got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Robideau also got a hit, marking her first of the season.

Frankfort always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mason County Eastern only posted an OBP of .200.

Frankfort's win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average this season. As for Sault Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
