Recap: Port Gibson Blue Waves vs. Vicksburg Gators
The Port Gibson Blue Waves fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Vicksburg Gators on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 56-55 to the Gators. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Port Gibson in their matchups with Vicksburg: they've now lost three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Port Gibson lost, one person who can't be blamed is Rekiyah Washington. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. Washington continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Amyah Hedrick was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with 8 rebounds.
Port Gibson's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Vicksburg, the last time they lost on the road was back last Saturday. Having now won six straight away matchups, they've pushed their record up to 2-9.
Port Gibson will face off against Florence at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Florence has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Vicksburg, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Yazoo City at 6:00 p.m. Yazoo City is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
