Basketball Recap: Evan Morales' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Vanguard Academy Rembrandt over Miller

Vanguard Academy Rembrandt's tournament run continued when they took on Miller on Thursday. The game between the Vanguard Academy Rembrandt Spartans and the Miller Buccaneers didn't end well, with the Vanguard Academy Rembrandt Spartans falling 62-45. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Evan Morales, who posted ten points and four steals. Morales has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Damian Cantu was another key player, going 6 for 15 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds.

Miller found their leader in sophomore Izaiah Gidrey, who went 9 of 15 on his way to 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of George Simmons, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists.

Vanguard Academy Rembrandt's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Miller, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-5.

Vanguard Academy Rembrandt will take on IDEA Edinburg College Prep in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Vanguard Academy Rembrandt is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.9 points per game this season. As for Miller, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, an 82-52 defeat against Edinburg North on the 13th.
