Baseball Recap: Alcoa Has No Trouble Against Pigeon Forge

Alcoa hadn't done well against Pigeon Forge recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Alcoa blew past Pigeon Forge 11-2. The result was nothing new for the Tornadoes, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Parker Davis made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Aden Orrick was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Levi Spivey, who scored two runs and stole a base.

Alcoa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.

Alcoa pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Pigeon Forge, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-3-1.

Alcoa and Pigeon Forge should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings. Alcoa will challenge McMinn County at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday up 70 places (26 vs. 96). Meanwhile, Pigeon Forge (ranked 25th) will meet South Greene (ranked 311th) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
