Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Academy Comes Up Short

St. Mary's Academy lost against Sunrise Christian Academy back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The St. Mary's Academy Crusaders took a 50-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sunrise Christian Academy Buffaloes. While losing is never fun, the Crusaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while the Buffaloes are ranked 22nd).

Marko Pavlovic continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Sunrise Christian Academy, as he made all 7 shots he took for 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Pavlovic is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last eight games he's played. Canaan McElroy was another key player, putting up 14 points.

This is the second loss in a row for St. Mary's Academy and nudges their season record down to 11-15. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 23-9 Wichita HomeSchool (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 79.5% over those games). As for Sunrise Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-4 record this season.

St. Mary's Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 41-36 win against Christ Prep Academy on the 1st. As for Sunrise Christian Academy, they have also already played their next game, a 67-41 victory against Wichita HomeSchool on the 1st.
