Softball Recap: Independence Falls Short of Reagan in the Playoffs

Independence and Reagan squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Independence had to settle for second. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raiders. The Patriots' loss signaled the end of their 18-game winning streak.

Maliyah Alexander spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Natalie Johnson was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run. Another player making a difference was Michaela Williams, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 23-3. As for Reagan, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-5 record this season.

Independence does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Reagan, they will square off against Hickory Ridge on Tuesday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Ragin' Bulls have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
