After a string of 14 wins, Varnum's good fortune finally ran out  on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Tupelo Tigers by a score of  4-3. The Whippets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their  defeat the last time these teams played  back in April of 2021.
 Aiden Cooper put in work no matter where he played. He  pitched six innings while giving up just two earned  (and two unearned) runs off   six  hits. Cooper was also solid in the batter's box,  going 2-for-3 with one  RBI.
 Cooper wasn't  the only one making solid contact as  three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was  Payton Romines, who  went 1-for-2 with one  RBI.
Varnum's loss dropped their record down to 20-6. As for Tupelo, their victory was  their sixth straight at home, which  pushed their record up to 7-8.
 Coming up, Varnum will head out to  face off against Dewar  at 4:30  p.m.  on Thursday. The Dragons will roll in looking for their  26th straight  win, something the Whippets surely won't give up without a fight. As for Tupelo, they will challenge Caddo at 11:00  a.m.  on Thursday. The Bruins' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4  runs per game  this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
