Basketball Recap: Walsenburg Takes a Loss

Walsenburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They lost 60-34 to the Las Animas Trojans. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Walsenburg still got an impressive performance from Adrian Vallejos, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 16 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Vallejos has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Logan Tenorio was another key player, putting up 17 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Walsenburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive games.

Walsenburg's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Las Animas, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Walsenburg will challenge Primero at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Las Animas, they will be playing at home against Evangel Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
