Recap: Cardinal Newman Crusaders vs. John Carroll Catholic Rams
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Cardinal Newman Crusaders walked away with it. They walked away with a 71-59 victory over the Rams on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but Cardinal Newman sure is getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
Jermaine Council was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with three steals. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lt Noegel, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.
Despite the loss, John Carroll Catholic still got an impressive performance from Collin Jefferson, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine assists. Jefferson hasn't dropped below eight assists for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Caden Johnson, who scored 12 points.
Cardinal Newman has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. As for John Carroll Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-16.
Cardinal Newman will look to defend their home court on Saturday against King's Academy at 7:00 p.m. Averaging 68 points so far this season, Cardinal Newman's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so King's Academy better be ready for a challenge.
