Basketball Recap: Friday's Win Is Bayside's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Bayside won the last time they faced Heritage and things went their way on Friday too. The Bayside Bears walked away with a 64-54 win over the Heritage Panthers. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 297th, while the Panthers are ranked 597th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Elijah Gillis was the offensive standout of the game as he went 6 for 10 en route to 17 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kody Grodecky, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points.

Bayside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why Heritage lost, don't look at David Simpkins. Despite the final result, he went 6 for 12 en route to 16 points. Another player making a difference was ORyan Woolstan, who posted eight points.

Bayside is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points per game. As for Heritage, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.

Bayside has already played their next contest, a 65-36 victory against Cocoa Beach on the 21st. As for Heritage, they will be playing at home against Titusville at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
