League recap: Eastside Memorial climbs in state rankings with win

Eastside Memorial moved up to 1,022 from 1,091 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region IV District 26. Eastside Memorial climbed the ranks as a result of beating Cornerstone Christian 27-19.

LBJ Austin extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Crockett, 37-34. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.

Sabian Cannon was the best wideout in the league this week as McCallum bested Travis. Cannon racked up six receptions for 71 yards. Willie Mays helped McCallum's passing attack out by catching five balls for 63 yards.

A.J. Herrera was the most productive running back in 4A Region IV District 26 this week. He ran for 202 yards on 26 carries as the Knights defeated the Rebels. Cannon also contributed to the rushing game with 48 yards on the ground.

Johnathon Caldwell put up the best numbers through the air as Travis fell to McCallum. He finished with a total of 10 completions for 102 yards and one touchdown. Caldwell's favorite target this week was Chris Clark, who caught five passes for 40 yards.

Travis' offense has been unstoppable this season and the Rebels feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Caldwell has thrown for 1371 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, while Johnny Williams has 42 catches for 639 yards. Clark leads the league in rushing with 673 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when LBJ Austin takes on Jason Cecil's team. Demo Odems' team is in third place, while the Knights are in second place.

Darrell Crayton's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,958 from 13,012. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 27-19 victory over the Warriors last week.
