Recap: John Marshall Monarchs vs. Wheeling Park Patriots
The John Marshall Monarchs''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. Their rough 31-7 defeat to Wheeling Park might stick with them for a while. John Marshall has struggled against Wheeling Park recently, as their game on Friday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Leading Wheeling Park to victory were Aiden Davis and Amare Johnson. Davis threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns while completing 79.2% of his passes, while Johnson rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Mykel Davis, who picked up 101 receiving yards and a touchdown.
John Marshall's loss was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-1 Linsly and 10-1 Linsly (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69.3% over those games). As for Wheeling Park, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
John Marshall does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Wheeling Park will head out on the road to face off against Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Jefferson is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
