Softball Recap: Wheaton North Takes a Loss

Wheaton North has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.38 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Oswego Panthers by a score of 14-12. Even if the Falcons couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Reagan Crosthwaite made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-5. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played. Makayla Hammer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

This is the second loss in a row for Wheaton North and nudges their season record down to 17-4. As for Oswego, their victory was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheaton North will square off against St. Charles East at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Fighting Saints will aim to continue their five-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Oswego, they will face off against Plainfield East at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bengals have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
