Recap: La Vega Pirates vs. LaPoynor Flyers
After a string of eight wins, the La Vega Pirates's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of LaPoynor by a score of 55-53.
La Vega's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Monta Hilliard, who scored 16 points along with three steals, and Kobe Williams who scored eight points along with seven steals. The contest was Hilliard's 14th in a row with at least ten points. Amir Gibson was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
La Vega's loss dropped their record down to 11-4. As for LaPoynor, their win bumped their record up to 13-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. La Vega will take on West at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1173rd, while La Vega is ranked 282nd). As for LaPoynor, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Grandview at 1:00 p.m. Grandview is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
