Softball Recap: Ellinwood Comes Up Short

Ellinwood had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 12-13 to make it four. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sylvan-Lucas Mustangs. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in May of 2023.

Makynna Bryant and Shyria Quintana stepped up to the plate in a big way. Bryant went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run, while Quintana went 2-for-3 with one home run.

As for Sylvan-Lucas, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games.

On Sylvan-Lucas' side, Harlee Nelson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Nelson has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, Josie Svaty was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Montana Griffiths, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Sylvan-Lucas beat Ellinwood by a score of 7-5 later that day.
