Illinois high school softball team steals 40 bases in 29-28 win

Peoria (Ill.) and Manual (Peoria, Ill.) battled for nearly four hours last Thursday, with Peoria coming out on top with a 29-28 victory. The teams set a number of state records in the process.

According to the Peoria Journal Star, Peoria ended a 37-game losing streak by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the win. Peoria stole 40 bases in the process, setting a state record.

Peoria also stole 12 bases in the first inning, also a state record, while Manual stole 11 bases in the second inning to come in No. 2 on the state list.

Abby Carlton of Peoria tied the state record for stolen bases in a game with nine.



The teams also totaled 40 walks, with Monique Miller drawing a state record six. Meanwhile, Mariyah Turner of Manual went 6-for-7 to come in at No. 4 on the all-time state list for hits in a game.
