Softball Recap: Kapolei Takes Down Ranked Nanakuli

Kapolei faced Nanakuli in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Hurricanes were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Golden Hawks. Considering the Hurricanes have won four games by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Kandi Malama-Ahlo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Malama-Ahlo was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. She also hit two doubles, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Skyla Saito was a standout: she scored a run while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kendalyn Cordeiro-Felise, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Kapolei always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Kapolei and bumps their season record up to 5-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Nanakuli, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Coming up, Kapolei will square off against Mililani at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Nanakuli, they will face off against Campbell at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Sabers will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Golden Hawks surely won't give up without a fight.
